In 1977, a universe was
born that would captivate audiences
around the world. "Star Wars: A New
Hope" was released in theaters by
LucasFilm Ltd. Starting with almost
nothing, George Lucas created his own
special effects company to invent ways to
make his special scenes. Two years later,
the next installment, "The Empire
Strikes Back" shocked the fans. Two
years after that, "Return of the
Jedi" brought a closure to the story
of the redemption of Anakin Skywalker.
George Lucas'
masterpieces have reached far and wide to
millions of fans. Soon, novels were
published by Del Rey and Bantam books. At
first they didn't sell well, but when
they were tied with the movies, many were
added to the New York Times Bestseller
List. While independent of Lucas' movies,
these books provide an endless story to
the lives of the characters we've grown
to love.
In 1997,
the twentieth anniversary of Star Wars,
Lucas refurbished his original trilogy
and released the Special Edition in
theaters. His goal was to make the movies
the way he originally envisioned them but
could not have them for lack of time and
money. Now Lucas has gone back to the
very beginning of the Star Wars saga, in
"The Phantom Menace," to tell
the story of how Anakin Skywalker became
Darth Vader.
This web
site is devoted exclusively to George
Lucas' movies and the Bantam and Del Rey
series of books, who have contracts with
Lucasfilm. It should be noted that the
only official novels are the ones based
on the movie screenplays; all others are
independent of Lucas' movies. You will
find a comprehensive, chronological, and
complete listing of those books and
movies. This web page is frequently
updated to aid you in your exploration of
the Star Wars universe. Any advertisment
to fellow fans is much appreciated.
